4th Visit.
It was a real grotty morning with a strong cold wind,
hail and snow. I did some snow shifting so we could make a visit to Halifax –
where the snow had melted.
After lunch I got itchy feet and decided to brave
the elements, so we had a short trip to Coach Road – Lightcliffe, although we
did no hold out any hope of seeing much.
The wind was howling through the trees down there so
most of the smaller birds were keeping out of the way.
However, we did have some luck. At the very bottom
of the track, near the school, there were 4 Goldfinch and a F. Chaffinch in the
bushes. A Redwing, Mistle Thrush and the usual Jackdaws and Woodpigeons were
feeding in the large field here. Another Mistle Thrush and a Song Thrush
were in the larger trees that stand on the open ground.
Also here 3 Long Tailed Tit, Wren, Robin, Great
& Blue Tit and a Jay calling.
On our way back up the track to Lightcliffe we heard
the familiar call of a GSW coming from some wind swept trees just in
front of us.
Although the bird called 4 or 5 times and we gave the trees a
severe coat of looking at – we could not locate it. I can understand me
not finding it but even Hawkeyed Sue failed to see it.
Ah, well the hunt goes on…. I guess the Woodpeckers will
start drumming on Wednesday when spring arrives.
Not sure what the motif is - Titus Salt?
I,m sure you,ll be rewarded if you stick at it John.
ReplyDeleteJust a matter of time and patience - wish I had Sue's eyes though.
ReplyDeleteGuess I'll have to settle for being tall & handsome.
(oh! and deluded)
