11:00.
We had a walk through Hirst Wood with the
trees looking resplendent wearing their new green gear and along the canal to
Bingley 5 rise locks with the return journey via the river Aire.
It was a bright and breezy day, quite warm
in the sun and out of the draught.
We stopped off at 5 Rise Locks Cafe for a
bacon sandwich before heading back.
It was a bit disappointing on the bird
front and everyone and his dog plus bike had taken to the canal tow path. I was
hoping for Kingfisher but the river was very swollen, murky and fast moving so
maybe the Kingfisher had gone to the smaller streams to feed.
I also thought that a Flycatcher might
make an appearance but it was not to be.
I made up for the lacks of birds with a
double cone (green with choc choc and vanilla and a flake! ) at the Roberts
Park cafe, looks like I'll need to hike up Soil Hill again to burn all these
calories off.
If you have not been to Roberts Park you
have missed a treat, on a lovely sunny day it’s always worth a look.
On the way home we stopped for a nosey at
Raggalds Flood. It looked very healthy with Fridays deluge leaving a good bit
of juice there.
There were just Corvids, a Pied Wagtail
and a Woodpigeon there today though.
Photos are not just as easy, now that the
leaves are back in vogue.
Birds:
LTT, Nuthatch, 2 Jay, 4 Mute Swan, 11
Greylag Goose, Blackcap (always nice to see and hear a Blackcap), Willow Warbler,
Chiffchaff, Grey Wagtail, Pied Wagtail, Heron, Swift, Swallow, House Martin, A Sparrowhawk gliding above some Swallows and others.
