Cafe Walk

14:05 - 16:15

The bit of sun this morning was short lived before the mist formed. The mist eventually dispersed and a milder day followed with a bit of sun now and again.

Our usual walk this afternoon to Asa Nicholson's Café via Keighley Road, Thornton Road and Denholme Gate Road.

The return via Denholme Gate was a bit unpleasant.
The pavement was covered in snow drifts so we had to resort to walking along the busy roadside.

A Green Woodpecker called a few times, from outside our house this morning, and was still calling when we returned from the walk.

As I left the house a Sparrowhawk nearly took me head off as it zoomed across the garden.
It rose into the air, very Woodpigeon like, before flying off at speed.

Bradshaw Lane fields had c6 Meadow Pipit.

A Kestrel stood majestically on a fence post near the Causeway Foot Inn.

I took a photo of a mega distant large bird  (I though it was a distant Herring Gull at the time) from the photo, it looks like a Barnacle Goose to me (which would be a tick) - but then ... it may be a Canada Goose flying alone? - unusual?

2 flocks of airborne Lapwing were seen in different locations and c20 were in the lower Shay fields below Soil Hill.
In among the Shay Field Lapwings was a nice treat - a Golden Plover.

Nearing the Raggalds a bird flew past at speed.
It was a cross between a Kestrel and a Collard Dove (if that makes any sense). The bird seemed smaller than a Kestrel with sharper faster wingbeats.

I was too busy making sure a juggernaut didn't send me to the promised land, to get the bins on it ... ah well! another on bites the dust.

An enjoyable outing.

Nice to hear Chaffinch singing outside your door

Very distant 'large bird'

Cropped - best I can do.
Probably a Barnacle Goose

Golden Plover

Probably a Carrion Crow?
