A good walk about this morning with a cold 2 degrees to start with and a warm 9 degrees by lunchtime.
I went down the Coley Church bridleway though Priestley Green, down the bridleway to the A58.
Right up the road, left past Lightcliffe Golf Course and down Coach Road to Sefton Ave - then did it all again (more or less) back.
It was a lot quieter than I thought it would be.
Coley to Coach Road.
Great Spotted Woodpecker calling.
Pied Wagtail, Black Headed Gull, and some other sp.
Coach Road 10:45
Song Thrush, Redwing, 5 Nuthatch, 4 Jay, Long Tailed Tit, Heron, Greenfinch, 2 Herring Gulls over and a fleeting glimpse of a Butterfly.
3 Great Spotted Woodpecker - One heard calling, One heard drumming and one actually seen!
I thought there would have been a lot more drumming.
Ringby Lane 14:00 - 15:15
I realised that I had hardly any mud on me boots so I decided to rectify that, big time and had a drive over to Swalesmoor where there was enough mud to build .... a big muddy thingamabob.
Lots of Corvids in the Swalesmoor Road fields but not many on the top of Ringby Lane.
Stock Dove, c20 Common Gulls, 2 Herring Gulls, 10 Meadow Pipit, 1 Skylark, 2 Pied Wagtail, 1 Starling on it's tod - unusual?
Top of the pops were 3 Linnet.
A bit of a mystery as well.
Mystery Bird:
I took a photo of a 'thrush type' which I saw at a distance along the top of the hill. I was thinking - that's something different.!
Then I scanned with the bins and picked up a lone Starling thinking that this was the same bird.
Looking through the photos there were 2 birds a Starling and a ??.
The distant photo is pants - of course.
Any chance this is a Rock Pipit??

Can't think what else it could be in March.
I don't suppose Rock Pipit has ever been seen up there.
The Mipits were on the west hill top - but not for long.
The Linnet made me smile. An early sighting for me.
