Ogden - very wet this afternoon

Abi with us as usual today and Sue took her to the Ovenden trampolining park , I scrounged a lift to Ogden, to be picked up an hour later on their way back.

Heavy rain was interspersed with heavy drizzle not letting up much.

I had a slow clomp along the circuit path in me wellies.

I counted 63 Gulls at one point probably 50/50 Black Headed and Lesser Black-backed.

3 Herring Gulls were on the water and the Lesser Black-backed included 2 Juv's (I think).

A Juv. Herring Gull (Possibly) had a 'pretty'  dark brown head, which looked unusual (to me anyway). see photo.

A Great Crested Grebe was out in the middle and a Little Grebe was at the NE corner.

4 Tufted Duck and a Heron were also here.

During a particular heavy downpour a large black duck / diver species dropped in.

It landed in the middle of the water (as usual!).

It looked very 'alert' as if it was ready to leave immediately.

When the rain died down a bit it was recognisable as a Common Scoter.

A couple of good birds at Ogden today made the soaking acceptable.

Just the small camera today so the photos aren't great.

? Juv Herring Gull with a pretty head.

  2. Thanks Dave.
We always say that lousy weather 'might' bring something down. Today, for a change, it actually did.. a really good bird for Ogden. John
