Ilkley & Ogden to Bradshaw

Ilkley:

We enjoyed a walk along the river at Ilkley today.
A good few hail showers were keeping the birds at bay.
With the dodgy weather we went downstream to Ilkley cemetery across the bridge and back up t'other side.

We had a very pleasant chat with Debra and Chris from Bradshaw, who we met in the church café and bumped into again along the river.

Birds:-

2 Grey Wagtail,1 Pied Wagtail.

Drake Goosander with a B.I.G. fish.

(possibly a Rainbow Trout)
The Goosander looked like it had bitten off more that in could chew!

2 Nuthatch, 2 Dipper, Song Thrush and a few other sp.

A chunky looking F. Chaffinch that is confusing me.
The bird may have some disease of the leg?
I am trying to turn it into something else but failing!

Ogden to Bradshaw

16:00 -17:45

The weather improved late afternoon so I had a look at Ogden Water and walked home via Percy Road & Taylor Lane.

Just 1 Black Headed Gull and 1 Common Gull on the water when I arrived!
4 Larger Gull did arrive later.
Pr. Goosander still here.
3 Treecreeper, Coal Tit, Goldcrest and a few other sp.

8 Stock Dove were in the Percy Road fields.
A largish flock of small birds landed here as well, c30 Meadow Pipit or Skylark - probably a mixture of both?

The Taylor Lane Little Owl took some finding - it was on the deck for a change - not used to seeing in on the deck.

A pr. Meadow Pipit were seen from our kitchen window.

(Raggalds Flood held 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull).

Ilkley:-

For computer programmers out there.
A Nuthatch de-bugging a tree.

Ah! there's the bug.

Cobol was my thing yonks ago.
c++ was beyond my old brain,
when it arrived on the scene.

Chunky F. Chaffinch.
One leg looks 'diseased'

  1. Nice one John. A big fish for a Goosander but I guess it got it down in the end ?. A Cormorant would have had a tussle with that one but once there it ends up going down.
Better fried with a few chips !!

  3. It was still tussling with the fish when we left!
Lots of Treecreeper at Ogden I guess - still great to see them though.
    Ta for the comment.
