14/07/2016 The Needles
A few bus rides today – St. Helen's to
Ryde – Ryde to Newport - Newport to The
Needles ( 2 hours all told).
The bus journey was well worth the
effort – the Needles is a great place.
Although some of it is very commercialised, you don’t have to stray far to see Raven and where else will
you get a glass blowing lesson for a quid?
I was hoping for Rock Pipit having seen
them here last year.
The strong wind was hampering things a
bit although it was dead calm in some areas.
A bird called from nearby and this
turned out to be my only Rock Pipit on this trip –a juv. Rock Pipit.
Birds:
2 Kestrel, Peregrine Falcon,
at least 3 Raven,
2 Green Woodpecker(seen in a garden from the bus), Skylark, 11 Cormorant, Great
Black-backed Gull. Fulmar.
Meadow Pipit with an unusual call. juv. Rock Pipit.
An unusual Pigeon with 2 Blue Leg rings.
5 Little Egret (seen at Wooton Bridge from the bus).
2 Heron and other sp.
