Porthmadog Short Holiday Day 1 Monday 14th May 2018 - LIFER

Superb walking weather here today.
Dry, sunny with a refreshing sea breeze saw us walk from the caravan site near Porthmadog to Criccieth.
A real cracker of a walk.

Woodland to start with, then cliff paths with gorse and small bushes for company.
Some little inlets with sandy beaches then the massive beach that eventually leads into Criccieth with a smashing last 500 yds near the railyway line where there were high cliffs and scrubland.

Birds:-

Whitethroats in high numbers.
3 or 4 Raven some feeding on a dead sheep on the cliff tops.
Stonechat, Reed Bunting, Sand Martin.
Single Ringed Plover.
Swift, Little Egret.

In the marina at Porthmadog the tide was coming in.
Sue spotted the distant 'dot' of a Diver.
I took a long stroll around the harbour walls to try get a photo.
The bird constantly dived for long periods with a very short period on the water.
The rigging of the Yatchs were causing the camera to focus on anything but the small dot.

Eventually, though I was rewarded with a half decent photo of a …
Red-Breasted Merganser a Lifer for me.

Brill!!

Difficult in shadow but I think they are both Oyks.

I suppose 'Yum,Yum' Welsh lamb is in bad taste.

First glimpse of Red Breasted Merganser
