Brookfoot LNR - Possible Caspian Gull (Possibly Not!)

The Big Rain and Big Winds duly came yesterday and I remained put with the crossword.

This morning the wind was still very strong and I opted for a late morning drive down to Brighouse to have a look around Brookfoot LNR.

Bright and breezy here with the odd spit of rain.

Lots of water in the reed beds now.

Good numbers of Gulls on the ski lake and I did pick up a couple of yearly ticks to enhance my 2024 birding list.

One of the Treecreeper was so close to me on a tree trunk that I messed up the photo completely. At least you can see it's long toes!

30 species in all seen here  today -  here are some of them.

6 Chaffinch,.

2 Little Grebe together at one time - dived and disappeared - very Little Grebe like!

2 Goosander, 3 Heron, 2 Treecreeper,.

1 M. Goldeneye Duck, 9 Tufted Duck,.

1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 2 Herring Gull.

A Large Gull with quite a White Head is probably a Herring Gull.

Its beyond me to ID it as owt else! Unless it's a Caspian - now that would be nice.

c65 mix of Common and Black Headed Gull.

Nuthatch.

An enjoyable outing but it was back to the strong wind at home again this afternoon.

A candidate for a Caspian Gull.

  2. Cheers Darrell.
Gulls are difficult for me to ID with a good photo!
So this Gull was a long shot but always worth a punt.
I Liked the 'pretty' head on this one so put the photo up there. John.
