Easter Tuesday 22nd April – Ripon & Knaresborough.

Ripon.

Last year on a day out to Ripon a birder mentioned that he’d seen a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker where the rivers Laver & Skell meet by a wooden bridge west of Ripon. So we had an hours walk keeping any eye out for the LSW but no luck.

Birds seen:-

Grey Heron, Blackcap, Pr. Moorhen with two large footed chicks, Greylag Goose, Marsh tit or Willow Tit.
Song Thrush. Chaffinch collecting feathers.
.
Knaresborough – Birkham Wood

In the afternoon I had a scout about in Birkham Woods nr Knaresborough.

Dipper with a nest in the river wall feeding young.

Marsh Tit seen and heard calling. Wren. GSW. Moorhen. Buzzard overhead. Goldfinch. Greenfinch. Nuthatch. Chiffchaff.
Two Jackdaws were standing on a fallen tree looking forlorn  - presumably they had a nest in the tree.
Red Kite on the way home.
An odd looking black growth on a tree.
