I enjoyed a good hike today in warm sunshine. Most of
the warm gear stayed in the sack.
Harden
11:30
Woodpecker drumming in the woods soon after I left
Stephen Smiths Garden Centre. Chiffchaff calling throughout the day. Also Coal
tit and a Song Thrush on the way.
Hallas
Bridge: Pr. Chiffchaff , Goldfinch
Hewenden:
Super place for a picnic but I had to crack on.
Chiffchaff, 2 Cormorant on the water.
Doe
Park 13:15.
Greenfinch, Chiffchaff, Green Woodpecker calling.
Possible Stock Dove on a wall far away.
On Res. 2 Canada Goose and 5 M. Mallard.
Male and Female Linnet (I think) a long way off.
Towards
Denholme:
Yet another Green Woodpecker – this time I finally
spotted it calling loudly from a telegraph pole – must have had a poor
connection.
Over
the Moor to Ogden.
Skylark and Meadow Pipit were in abundance with
Skylark in great voice.
Male Reed Bunting – at last - this has
eluded me for ages.
M. Pheasant, Curlew calling.
Sitting down for some scran with bins and camera
stowed away. The rattling of my sarnie bag disturbed a pr. Partridge which
quickly flew off.
I could not tell the variety of Partridge (Quaker Oats or
Scotts).
Ogden
15:00 (ish). (Wilting in the sun by now.)
On approach to the Ogden Bridleway continuation of
Back Lane I heard a Green Woodpecker calling to the north of the res. After
following the call and a few hill climbs I finally got the bins on it. I even
got the camera on it but it decided to play hard to get.
A Green Woodpecker at Ogden is a first for me.
Going around the circuit: Chiffchaff, many a Wren,
Pr.Dunnock out a courting.
Pied Wagtail, Male Goldeneye and F. Goosander.
Pied Wagtail, Male Goldeneye and F. Goosander.

What is it Scotty? It's a wellie but not as we know it captain.
