Leeshaw.
Following B.S. report of the Golden Plover bonanza,
we had a drive out to Leeshaw this morning.( Nice to speak with Rod from
Bradford Birders).
The Golden Plover were in the marsh field. I
counted c60 but they were quite a distance away and so there could be lots
more!
Scran.
We had a walk past Drop
Farm Tearooms & returned there later for a delicious snack
(it was packed full of people the cafe not the sarnie). We were lucky it was open – only opens Wed,
Thu, Fri – 12 noon ‘till 3pm.
Moor
On the moor there were lots of Pheasant a few Wheatear
and Meadow Pipit. Sue spotted a pr. Little Owl on a wall quite a distance away. Later, at a
different location, we saw another Little Owl much nearer.
Res.
There were plenty of Lapwing near the res. fields,
three taking a dislike to a M. Pheasant and dive bombing it. 2 Oystercatcher, a
Wheatear and a Pied Wagtail were on the Res. wall. Also about, a few Skylark
and a Cuckoo calling from the trees across the Res. – heard but not spotted
unfortunately.
Also in the fields 26 Greylag with another a couple on the water.
Ogden 18:30-19:30
A scout around Ogden after tea hoping forCommon Sandpiper -
no luck.
Very calm and quite beautiful.
Grey Wag. Grey Heron. Willow Warbler 6. Chiffchaff 1. Coal
tit. Goldcrest. Goldfinch lots. Mallard with 10 ducklings in tow. Canada and usual Mallard on the pond.
Glad you got on the Goldies, a few days and they,ll be gone.
ReplyDeleteChris and Rod let me know about the Cuckoo this morning. It stays around the farm but takes a lot of time and patience to see it.
A good haul there, including Oystercatcher the bird that wants to avoid me this year.
