Stanbury- Ponden Clough-Middle Moor Clough-Top Withens.

Hiking today not much time to stop.(Cool on the tops but hot and sunny later).

Birds seen:-

Plenty of Lapwing & Curlew.

C20 Red Grouse encountered during the walk, with many calling and very active.

Fledgling Mistle Thrush with down feathers still visible on the head.

Cuckoo calling. Swallow.
A Grey Heron, circling ‘Buzzard like’ over Ponden Res. can’t remember seeing one circling before – they seem always intent on getting from A to B.

Meadow Pipit in abundance throughout, only a few Skylark though.
Pheasant & Pied Wagtail.

At the top of Ponden Clough there were some large rocks with inscriptions.

  1. Like the Mistle Thrush shots. Apart from the legs protruding, if I ever see a Grey Heron even attempting to circle, I always check for Osprey if at distance.
