Ovenden Moor / Thornton Moor

9:50 – 14:00

An absolutely fabulous day for a long moorland walk.

Bright with hot sunshine with a slight refreshing breeze on the moor tops.

Birds seen:-

Swallow, Meadow Pipit, Curlew, Reed Bunting, 10 Lapwing, Skylark, Goldfinch, Willow Warbler, Linnet.
A reclusive Grey Wagtail? in a tree. LBB Gull.
An unid. On the water building roof – see photo.
Wren, Kestrel, Red Grouse, Couple of Swift.
On the moor top a Female Mallard sitting on the wall looking very important.
A  few sheep had decided to  join me in the field – they didn’t bother using the stile but climbed the wall instead.
Inundated with  Meadow Pipit !

Any ideas what this is. Sorry for the crap pic.
The bird was on TMR wall (a long way from the footpath).

Grey Wagtail?

This bird was on the reservoir building roof?

  1. Not easy to get a size on the photos but Id say Mipit on the wall and possibly juv Mistle Thrush on the roof. Nice walk round through good birding country

  2. Thanks for your comments Brian.
It's magic walking on the moors up there when it's dry.
I've seen a Barn Owl on the B/W behind Denholme Velvets - but it was years ago..
