14:00 – 16:30
A stroll around Ogden and up to the giants’ tooth
on a hot sticky afternoon. The forecast rain did not arrive.
I remember the time when I could walk all day
without a pee – I still can, but the front of my trousers seem to get rather
damp.
Fortunately there are plenty of trees around Ogden.
A report of an Otter, seen a couple of days ago,
at the first bridge after the shop.
Birds: very hard to come by today – no idea why.
First Ogden circuit 100+ BHG with just 1 common
gull (that I could see). Also a LBBG and a young LBBG (I think).
An elusive Grey Wagtail eventually allow me to
take its pic.
Nothing seen on the way up to Giants’ Tooth. Some
small birds high up in the pines but I could not ID them.
Returning from Giants’ Tooth a possible Siskin in
the first pines on the left before the memorial bench.
Back at Ogden water a couple of Herring Gulls with
2 LBBG on the podium and a young LBBG.
Tough birding today – no waders (still) - now being dragged to pub by the missus (painful being dragged by the missus)
Apache Wigwams!
The Otter was probably the Mink I saw, Otters are almost 3 times the size of Mink and this habitat is simply not suitable for their needs.
ReplyDeleteYou pipped me at the post there Nigel, as you say, people are always reporting an Otter which is actually the resident Mink.
ReplyDeleteYep.
ReplyDeleteI see them at Knaresborough ,regularly,on the river Nidd and I was a bit dubious about the sighting.
