Addingham

Sunday 7th September – Addingham.

A few days away at Addingham and an enjoyable saunter to pick blackberries by the river Wharf.

Birds:-

Grey Wagtail, Goosander, Mandarin Duck, Heron, Pheasant(s), (Weasel) , Swallow, Pied Wagtail at Bolton Abbey with a very large whirlybird parked on the Devonshire Arms Helipelpad – I went across the fields to say hello your Excellency, but funnily enough I didn’t know the chap.

Monday 8th September – Steeton to Addingham.

12:45 : Bus to Steeton and a hike from Steeton to Addingham.

The weather changed from freezing to boiling in a couple of hours – I seemed to perspire a bit with me winter woollies on.

The walk starts at the Steeton river bridge over the River Aire (or earlier if you get off the bus at the wrong place) and follows the Bradford Millennium way signs to cross the Leeds/Liverpool canal. It soon rises with Holden Beck to approach Ghyll Grange Farm where sheep, sheep dog and farmer all conspired to put us on the wrong exit path from the farm. Fortunately we had the O.S. map and took a slightly longer route to pass the doubler stones and onto Black Hill to follow the long trail over Addingham High Moor to Ilkley.

Apart from the farmer and ‘er in doors , no other humanoid seen ‘till Ilkley.

17.00 and a well earned pizza, bottle of plonk and a treacle sponge pudding with lashings of custard, at the Wharf - Riverside Inn at Ilkley, gave us some energy to continue on the river to Addingham.

Birds:-

Kestrel, Swallow, Goldfinch, Raven, C25 Meadow Pipit during the day.
A size eight mushroom.
4 beautiful Red Grouse.

A Nun, well no not really, a different bird of prey another Kestrel being buzzed by a corvid.

3 Jay and Juv. Moorhen on the ponds as we came off the moor.

Tuesday 9th September

After a shopping trip to Skipton an early afternoon stroll on the river at Addingham.
Birds:-
4 Heron, 3 Dipper, Pheasant, 4 Grey Wagtail, Kingfisher (eating a tasty fish),.
BHG, Nuthatch calling but not spotted, 2 Moorhen.

Today's snooker term.

A size eight mushroom.
The other thing is a fungi I think.
(There is something amiss with these two statements)

Doubler stones

Walls - Walls everywhere, but not and ice cream to eat
