Wednesday
& Thursday 3/4th September.
A few days
away at Grassington seeing friends at Long Ashes Caravan Park.
A Green
Woodpecker calling, brought me out of my slumbers on Wednesday morning with
Nuthatch also calling nearby in the trees. The pond here held a couple of Tufted Ducks.
Later, a
short walk into Grassington and along the river in calm conditions
brought a good sighting of a Kingfisher always a nice surprise with a second
Kingfisher nearby.
c60 Swallow and a few House Martin were gathering on the wires and barn roof.

The next day saw two Kingfisher flying over a different
section of the river – probably the same two? and also flying 2 Dippers with 3
Goosander diving for some grub.
Also about,
Heron, many a Pied Wagtail on the ploughed fields and also there Common Gull
& BHG in Good numbers with C10 Lapwing. A flock of 30+ Goldfinch were in
the trees by the river with an elusive Wren by the road bridge with 3 Collard
Dove knocking about.
A Grey Wagtail and 2 Oyster Catchers and a Meadow Pipit were by the river with other smaller birds in the tress thereabouts. Also 4 Geese?
Disappointingly no waders seen on the river – but I was only walking by the river for 20 mins or so.

There is a
good smattering of adult and Juv. Pheasants on or nearby the Caravan Park.
A few pics:
Cracking Kingfisher shots John, unusual to get them perched like that, usually just a blue flash as they go downstream.
ReplyDeleteCheers Brian. It was perched on a rock earlier which I thought unusual.

Very well done with the Kingfisher
ReplyDeleteCheers Nigel - nice to have the camera at the ready.
ReplyDeleteThe last one I spotted was on Bingley canal ages ago and no camera present.
