Leeshaw & Leeming Reservoirs Oxenhope

After another visit to the doctors I needed a change of scenery today.

 Leeming 13:15

Cloudy with drizzle, this soon clearing to some brightness.

The reservoir was quiet with c20 BHG and 1 LBBG on the far shoreline. These were joined later by 6 Lapwing.

Feeding in the fields nearby were 21 Lapwing and c100 Starling. They seemed to enjoy each others company and were grouped in a tight bunch.

Red Grouse were calling from the moor and I noted at least 6 Pheasant strolling about.
Then on leaving I noticed a pr. Of Muscovy Duck although looking at the photo's I'm not sure.

Leeming:

Leeming looked beautiful today with a lot of shoreline visible.
A walk around it in the sunshine brought a few rewards.

The water was quiet with just Mallard swimming.

A Jay flew over and a very cool Carrion Crow was perched in a tree, at the optimum place , to gobble down berries nearly without moving.

Feeding at the waters edge was a Grey Wagtail.

I heard a weak call that I assumed was a Bullfinch but it did not appear.
Later on the top path, I passed the same place and this time had good views of 3 Bullfinch 2M 1 F.

Also about were Woodpigeon and in the bushes at the North-end were 3 Wren lots of Blue and Great Tit and 6 or so Long Tailed Tit.

A Kestrel flew over and c20 Jackdaw were feeding in the fields nearby.

A very enjoyable couple of hours.

In the fields by the farm shop near the Raggalds c100 Starling.
The flood still had two largish puddles showing.

Sue had an operation on her foot on Monday in Leeds. She has to keep her foot off the deck for two weeks (she’ll most prob. suffer food poising before then with my cooking). After 2 weeks she has to wear a clog for another 6 weeks or so. After that we should be back to normal walking to Haworth and Hebden Bridge as often as possible. We normally walk from home to the White Lion at Haworth, around Boxing Day, for some a Christmas meal and some mulled wine.

The far edge of the res. the limit of my camera's focus

Some pretty autumn colours

These look like Muscovy?

These don't

I'm due a decent LTT shot soon

Today's pretty stone bridge

Today's post - reminded me of walking the Bronte Way years ago.
Stayed at the Emmet Arms Inn in Colne
We came down for brekky but the landlady had overslept!

  1. Interesting display from the Muscovy Duck. You missed nothing today at Ogden, it was grim. Both Grebe species appear to have gone.

  2. The Muscovy odd behaviour had me hoping for some sort of diver!
But when I checked the Collins bird book nothing would fit the ‘bill’
Shame about Ogden – it deserves more – too many people about must have a bearing on the birds.
Hopefully some poor weather might improve things.
    Thanks for the comment.

  3. Unusual place to see Muscovys John, was hoping for Shelduck when you mentioned the knobble on the bill. Oh well, maybe next time. Nice Bullfinch pics.

Next project is to get a decent LTT pic before 2015 - the year not the time!
