My anniversary today – 1 year since my first blog.
Happy blogday to me….
So I had a walk around Ogden
and back via Peat Pits Farms and Bradshaw Lane.
Ogden
12:30
Quiet and eerie with the snow dampening down the
sound. The snow layering the pine trees created a strong pleasant smell of pine.
It was very picturesque here today, if very gloomy,
with mist above the trees.
A thaw had caused the snow lying on the pine trees
to melt creating quite heavy snowfalls, out-of-the blue(green), at times.
I had a stroll around the perimeter and a lovely
surprise.
I noticed a
Robin had been following me for 20 or 30 yards. I stopped for some time trying
to get a decent photo of Goldcrest that were flitting about, when the Robin landed
on my hat!
I had a root around in my rucksack and found some
biscuit which the Robin took from my hand – one hungry robin I guess.
You
could say that takes the biscuit!
Small birds were about but not in great number with
Blue, Great & Coal Tit feeding under the beech trees where a small stream
had thawed some of the snow.
A Kestrel landed in the trees nearby and later, another landed in the tree top near the duck
feeding area allowing me to get a half decent photo.Probably the same bird.
The water was it’s usual, quiet, self with just BHG,
Common Gull and Mallard as far as I could tell.
Birds
seen throughout the walk:
2 Wren, 5 Robin, 1 or 2 Kestrel, BHG, Common Gull, 5
Collard Dove,3 Carrion Crow, 20 Starling, 6 Magpie, 2 Goldcrest, 5 Jackdaw, 6
Blackbird, 2 Goldfinch, 1F Chaffinch, 10 Woodpigeon, 2 Jay, 3 House Sparrow, 2
Dunnock, Greenfinch, Mistle Thrush.
From a small boggy section of the field across the road from the Boggart
Brig track, a bird left the scene pretty quickly and flew towards the Soil Hill
area. It had its back to me as it flew away, so I could not say for certain,
but I am pretty sure it was a Snipe.
One day I’ll get a photo of a
snipe!
Most probably the same bird pictured earlier
?????
Greenfinch & Blue Tit
