Brighouse Canal / River

We had a short walk with friends along the canal at Brighouse today.

A Sparrowhawk was soaring very high above the gulls, way above the old flourmill tower.
The usual large contingent of Canada Goose was about, on the river, canal and fields hereabouts.
A quick look at the water ski lake revealed the usual small gulls (as far as I could tell) and a Mute Swan. 8 Cormorant were counted during the walk and a second young Mute Swan was on the canal trying to eat a plastic football. The football was out of reach otherwise I’d have removed it.
A 2 min. detour, to look at the river from the bridge near the feeders, revealed a Dipper.
I had no time today for a good nosey at the lagoon or feeding area.

The highlight of the walk was a Little Grebe on the river by the lock keepers cottage(and a good value and very tasty lunch at the Armytage Arms at Clifton – highly recommended!).

Dipper, well camouflaged

Fortunately the Swan gave up trying to devour this just as we left.

I had a good check of my other photos for a Barnacle without success

A very active Little Grebe

  1. A nice walk round, and of course there was some food involved.
