After a really busy Friday & Saturday with Swimming,
Play Gym and The Ripponden Panto Co.
“Snow White” (absolutely brilliant well done Panto Co) during which the……..
“Oh!
No he Isin’t”
was interrupted by a Snow Bunt text on my
prehistoric (but strangely loud) mobile
( from
someone who will remain nameless - cheers Bri.)
I though Sunday would be a day of rest.
However ‘er in doors got out the J. Edger the duster
and the pledge and DARED me to” take a walk on the wild side” (Soil Hill).
After Vaccing about for a while, as they say in Eastern
Europe, and shifting a bit of dust I decide (yes I decided) I
would visit the big mound that overlooks our house – Soil Hill.
Thanks to a B.S. text yesterday (seriously thanks) I went hunting for the Snow
Bunting.
There were 6 birders, up there, including me,
and by the time I’d got to the top of the track, after depositing some Twite foodstuff,
there was just myself and Alan T.
We were getting very wet, but we were both having a
right good chinwag, with no sign of Snow B. and after 40 mins or so, we both
caught a glimpse of something scuttling about on the track, sure enough the Snow
Bunting graced us with its presence.
The rain, bad light, 3 people metal detecting , a guy
walking a huge Alsatian dog and several heavy snow showers (ok there weren’t any snow showers) hindered my attempts at a “B.S.
quality” photographic experience.
We were both very happy with the appearance of the
Snow Bunt and the snaps we got, and after trying to get a tad closer and the
bird zooming off, we decide to call it a day and we went our separate ways. Also up here 3 Meadow Pipit and a Skylark or 2.
On the way home c15 Meadow Pipits were feeding in the fields on Taylor Lane.
The afternoon took a completely different direction
for me, with ‘er in door s dragging me, kicking & screaming out of the
house for a walk down to the Junction Inn at Scholes. After an enforced lemonade
we headed home and, again, SHE dragged me into the Raggalds for a second
lemonade. (Cheers Bri. for the text by the way) .
This is not my idea of how to spend a
Sunday afternoon.
Justin (the bar chap –sorry Justin don’t know the right
terminology for bar chap) was supplying the pop and we had a good old natter
before he flung us out and shouted “Don’t come back here again!”
A real roller-coaster week-end.
A few pics from Saturday, Parish Gates area:-
Well done getting the Bunt in those conditions John, my apologies to the Ripponden Panto Co . but certain things have to take priority and Snow Bunts are one of those things.
