Bempton Cliffs

We had a trip out to see the new £1 Million RSPB centre at Bempton Cliffs today.
The site is not fully finished, but it looked the part.We were impressed with the CAFE (Bri) good quality caviar and drip sarnies at a good price.
A new large TV monitor was showing pictures of nesting Gannets.

A cold bright and breezy day improving as it went on(We've never been here yet when it's been warm) had huggings of sea birds awaiting our arrival - the most I've seen here. The Gannets seemed happy with the breeze, soaring and collecting nesting material but none were diving.

Sue spotted the normally very elusive Puffin as soon as we got to the coast path and we had good sightings of Puffin throughout our visit.

There were Kittiwake , Razorbill and Guillemot all balanced precariously on the cliff edge. Most of the birds seemed content with their neighbours , even if they were nearly on each others lap.

The place was very busy with the overflow car park half full.

I had a scout around the nearby fields while Sue had a natter with a lady we had met in the visitor centre.

A report from some local birders of an 'influx' of Ring Ouzel at Flamborough Head.

  1. Always plenty to see at Bempton, Glad to see Tree Sparrows still there after a bit of a scare a few years back of numbers going down.

  4. Sue was watching something about Whitby last night.
I think I was nodding off - can't remember much about it.
