A late
afternoon stroll with some killer hills involved – very humid.
We parked at
Wainstalls and walked a bit of the Calderdale Way, down through the Hullet to
Jerusalem Farm along the beck and up to Jowler and up again to return to the
car via Rough Hall Lane.
We had a
great start with the sighting of 3 Little Owl sat on walls within 20 feet of
each other.3 Linnet flew over then (maybe I’m hearing things … but ..) a
Yellowhammer called twice from the trees 500 yds above the Hullet.
Alas I could
not locate the bird.
Near
Jerusalem Farm a GSW called from the woods by the stream and what appeared to
be a Juv. Sparrowhawk circled and called for a few minutes but we could only
glimpse the bird occasionally because of the tree cover.
A young lad
was fishing for American Crayfish is a horrible sickly looking yellow/brown
sludge of a pond that once was a mill pond.
Passing the
houses at Jowler 3 Jay and a GSW (calling).
The tough
slog uphill from here just brought with it a BHG & Greenfinch!
We had a few days off with Emma &
Abigail at St. Anne’s over the week-end.
The children’s disco was something
else where my Hokey Cokey dance involved either keeping up with a dynamite
packed 4 year old or pushing a young lady in a wheelchair across the dance
floor. “You put your left wheel in, left wheel out "….. the "shake it all about" bit DOES NOT WORK.
The later pics ,here, were taken after I
escaped late one evening by tunnelling under the main road to the beach.
