Bradshaw to Oats Royd and Little Egret News

10:30 - 12:00

I had a short leg stretcher around my local area this morning.
It was a cool, dry breezy morning with just the usual stuff about:-

Pied Wagtail, 2 Kestrel (one being mobbed by a Magpie), over 20 of each Woodpigeon and Jackdaw, a couple of Meadow Pipit.
A pleasant surprise in the form of a singing Chiffchaff.
3 Blackbird, a couple of crows with pied wing feathers, 2 Moorhen, a weak call from a hidden Bullfinch.
4 Jay (all seen together) - the most I've seen here at one time.
A couple of Chaffinch and that was about it.

Adam who lives in the flats down the road from us, tells me that he has a Sparrowhawk that regularly sits on his window sill!!

Little Egret:

Sue was driving on the new Sowerby Bridge by-pass road this morning(on the bridge off Wakefield Road new traffic lights) when she spotted a Little Egret in flight.
I’ve still not seen it yet but at least  it’s been seen by one of the family now!

Nyger Seed.

I bought some Nyjer seed today from B&M Stores at the bottom of Halifax.

The price was 99p for 350g - I thought this was very good value?

A poor snap but it does show the extent of the white in the wing feathers

  1. Good to know the Little Egrets still in the area, well spotted Sue.
Good price on the Nyjer John, even cheaper than Wilkinsons.
