A Later start than usual today on a cold, cold day
with a strong WSW wind especially on Soil Hill top.
It was a pleasant surprise to bump into Alan T. at
the bottom of Soil Hill track who had just been around the hill. (Thanks for
reading the blog Alan).
I found Soil Hill the same as Alan had left it, bereft
of Snow Bunting and Ring Ouzel.
I gave the hill a good coat of looking at, going
around both east and west sides and over the summit but I just spotted 2 birds:
a solitary Feral Pigeon and a Pheasant both enjoying the bird seed I had
dropped last week.
A Kestrel was hovering over Ned Hill Track, getting
lower and lower but not seeming to find any prey.
A few small Gulls were seen along the Coal Lane
stretch and C10
Goldcrest were flitting about between the Hawthorn bushes and the conifers at
the bottom of the plantation track along with 4 Blackbird.
I tried to turn Gold
in Fire but failed.
On the way to Ogden Water 4 Lapwing flew towards the
water.
Ogden Water is now full to the brim with water.
There was the usual contingent of small Gulls as far as I could tell.
There was a strong wind along the east side but it
was surprisingly calm on the west side of the water. This lifted my hopes of
seeing either Siskin or Brambling but the trees were bereft of anything
interesting, just Robins in abundance.
10 Long Tailed Tit flew across from one set of
bushes to another and C60 Staring flew over the water.
Coming past Bogart Brig a Jay was also seen – the RLP
were not seen in the Moorlands Fields today.
In the background another new turbine on the way

Did well with the Goldcrest pics, not an easy subject
ReplyDeleteThanks Bri. - they don't stay still.
ReplyDeleteI guess the Firecrest will pose statuelike when it arrives!

Nice shots John, looks like you had a good walk as well, Firecrest would be a great find.
