Birdcage
Lane
11:15
Sue called to see her dad this morning so I sloped
off to have a look around the Birdcage Lane area, hoping for Lesser Pecker.
There was plenty of birdlife and plenty of birds
calling with nuthatch calls being the ones that stood out.
I had a walk along Birdcage Lane and down and along Broomfield Ave. and then along the
bottom of the Rugby Ground.
This path emerges onto a one-way road where a right
turn leads back to Birdcage Lane.
The bushes and trees along this stretch of road held
lots of birds.
Birds:-
House Sparrow, Woodpigeon,3 Nuthatch, 4 Jay, Blue, Great and Coal Tit, 4
Greenfinch, c25 Goldfinch, Robin, Dunnock, Chaffinch, 5 Long Tailed Tit, GSW
calling, Mistle Thrush.
Soil
Hill
14:25
I had a later than usual check on Soil Hill today. I
put some Nyger Seed down –It seems that something likes the seed – the previous
lot had gone.
It was mild (for Soil Hill) but when I got to the
top of the hill the mist began to role in from Thornton spoiling things a bit.
It was another poor outing for me up here I’m afraid.
I had a good nosey about, but all I had top show for
it was 2 Goldfinch, Hen Pheasant and a Wren!
I heard a call, possibly a Reed Bunting but a 10
mins. hunt for the elusive B…..(ird) did not produce the goods.
Ned Hill Track produced a solitary Wren.
Perseverance Road had 6 or so Common Gull in the
fields and gulls were going over in 10’s towards Thornton Moor Reservoir.
Taylor lane had a Kestrel on the power lines and the
fields below Roper Lane were bereft of any Geese today.
I was going to check out Raggalds Flood but yesterday’s
hike was taking it’s toll and the light was getting very poor… and I can’t
think of any more excuses.
A
TRUE tale from yesterday’s visit to The Fleece at Haworth.
While
I was in the loo in The Fleece, a man came in and started chatting to the man
next to me.
“What
an awful day I’ve had – It’s good to relax and get sat down with a pint and no
nagging kids or wife blah blah blah”
The
second guy says “You should moan?”
“I
was at the bar 5 minutes ago when a lady came in with a dog, and guess what? Her
dog actually S**T on my shoe!”
First
bloke said “Actually my day was pretty good then” and walked off.
First
thing that entered my head was that the dog must have been ,yes you’ve guessed
it, a Shih Tzu.
The poor light is reflected in the poor photos
