Haworth – there and back

11:00 – 18:40

We decided to have a hike over the moors to Haworth today.

The route was through Bradshaw Farms B/W, Ogden Back Lane B/W, Thornton Moor reservoir, Leeming Reservoir Oxenhope, Oxenhope Steam Railway path into Haworth.

I had to leave the bins and camera at home today otherwise we would have never got there.

We enjoyed a great Roast Beef Sandwich in the Fleece pub and after a couple of glasses of Vino Collapaso we decided to make the most of a lovely day and walk back.
We arrived home in the dark at 18:40 but it was a day to remember.

I’ve also worked out how to see some great birds on my walks – leave the bins and camera at home!

Birds:-

Red Grouse were calling from the top of the moors by Thornton Moor Reservoirs and 2 were seen flying in the fading evening light on the return leg.

Nothing of note was seen on Leeming Reservoir.
As we walked along the stream from Oxenhope we caught up with a birder who pointed out a Nuthatch he had just seen.

2 mins after we had left the birder we heard him shout “Buzzard” and point to the sky.
We saw the Buzzard soaring very high on the thermals.
A second Buzzard joined the first one and they flew in some sort of formation.
A Third Buzzard came into view making it a special day indeed.

Sue attempted a few photos, on her mobile phone camera, and amazingly she actually got them – they are really small dots but I didn’t think she would get them at all.

Further along the stream a Kingfisher made a fly by and a Great Spotted Woodpecker was flitting from tree to tree.

A possible Redwing sat in a tree but without bins I could not really tell if it was a definite.

A Green Woodpecker was calling in this area on the return journey and a Pied Wagtail flew over.

It was 18:00 when we eventually made it to Back Lane near Ogden reservoir.
There were two separate Owl sp. calling one was definitely a Little Owl and I did not know what Sp. made the second call.

The Little Owl was kind enough to fly overhead as we passed the lone house on the right (the old, old, tea room building) near Ogden Lane.

I have put the pics on the blog although you cannot identify much from them!!
