Bolton Abbey and a Blizzard

We had a run out to Bolton Abbey this morning and we timed our visit just right.
As we returned to the Cavendish car park the heavy hail showers began and they followed us all the way home – culminating in a massive hail storm blizzard as we passed Ogden.

The temperature of 7° at Bolton Abbey fell to a miserly 1° at Ogden.

It’s May in a few days – what’s going on? Oh I know it’s global warming.

Heaven knows how the Swallows and Flycatchers manage in this weather.

We had a real cracker of a morning with some good fortune coming our way.
I was hoping for Pied Flycatcher or maybe Common Redstart but we managed to get some photos of both sp.

Honours were shared I got the Pied Flycatcher and Sue eyeballed the Redstart.

Another first for me this year was that of a Common Sandpiper, feeding in the Wharf, opposite the Cavendish Pavilion.

Birds:-

Pied Flycatcher, Common Redstart, Common Sandpiper, Pheasant, Nuthatch, Curlew(calling), Swallow, Mallards with chicks, Pied Wagtail, Pr. Goosander, Dipper, Wren, Robin, Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Song Thrush, Mistle Thrush, Black Headed Gull, Lesser Black Backed Gull, Rook, Carrion Crow, Magpie, Jackdaw, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Blackbird, Great Spotted Woodpecker (calling), Coal Tit, Mandarin Duck,  Oystercatcher, Grey Wagtail,  Chaffinch.

A distant Mandarin Duck I believe
