After a bit of snow shovelling this morning I
decided to give Ogden a coat of looking at this afternoon.
A mix of snow, hail, rain and sun were all on offer
today.
If I was a banjo player I’d have called myself Slim
Pickings on today’s performance.
There was not a lot happening, but with my recent Redstart
sighting at Bolton Abbey, and being a deluded optimist, I had a look for
Redstart in the small scrubby bushes ,on the right of the main path up to The
Withens.
Needless to say I came up blank – it took all my
patience to get a Robin today.
Great Tit,Chaffer, Wren, Long Tailed Tit and Robin were the
only birds I came across in the woods.
Even the trick of banging a stick, rapidly, against
a rotten tree stump, to attract Woodpecker, didn’t work – mind you it seldom
does for me.
Earlier a LBBG went over > W and on the water
there were just 2 Canada Geese and a few Mallard.
I was hoping a Wader might have dropped in.
The outing was finally salvaged with the sighting of
c10 Linnet,
far off in the fields on Cow Hill Gate Lane – my first Linnet of the year.
The picture’s rubbish though.
Also here a couple of Swallow!!
Earlier still a Mistle Thrush had nabbed all the
Meal Worms that I’d put out for the resident Blackbird.
I didn’t mind it having a few, but all! The
Blackbird looked a bit miffed when it turned up for some grub.
I don’t normally feed the birds after winter, but
seeing it is still winter…..
Enjoy the week-end - there's a heatwave on the way - you heard it here first.

Usually have a good flock of Linnets on Soil Hill before now. Only had 1 this year so far at the Parakeet site.
ReplyDeleteI normally see Linnet, on the phone wires, going up the bridleway opposite our house.
