Skipton / Hellifield Flash

We had a trip out to Skipton with a disappointing detour to Hellifield Flash today.
After a look around the Skipton shops we took a walk along the canal near Niffnay Bridge.

It was a very hot and sunny afternoon and the birds were, mostly, hiding under a very well camouflaged parasol.

The ones that did pop out were few and far between, but we did get to see a Buzzard and a Sparrowhawk.

There were of 40+ Oystercatcher knocking about, one group of 25.

Also in the fields 10 Mute Swan and on the tow path a pr. Mute Swan aggressively ‘defending’ their young from innocent passers by – like US!

Other birds included a few Curlew, a couple of Willow Warbler (even most of the WW were too hot to sing) and 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker.

Hellifield Flash – normally well worth a look was decidedly mundane.

There were 20+ Oystercatcher, 10+ Large Gulls (all Lesser Black-backed Gull no doubt!!), Lapwing, Curlew, Moorhen, Coot and a Shelduck with 2 offspring.
