√Coach Road Circular

13:45 - 15:15

In Bradshaw it was another misty, dull and damp day today.

(Soil Hill was in low cloud and with this cloudy stuff shifting about Ogden could also have been affected, so maybe tomorrow will be the day for Soil Hill).

We opted for a short trip down to Lightcliffe to see if a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker would grace us with it's presence.

We had a walk down Coach Road and took a right at the bottom along Newton Park another right soon followed and we worked our way back up to the Golf Course through lots of glorious mud.
It was Mud City or is there a word mudcity?

At the top of Coach Road we met a couple of hikers who were mud splattered having taken a wrong turning, earlier on their hike.
The guy mentioned that he had seen a Lesser Pecker sat on a wall at the bottom of Coach Road 30 years ago!

We made a good start to the walk with the sighting of 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers with a third heard.
Also seen in the tree with one of the GSW's was a Nuthatch.

Near the top of the lane a Mistle Thrush was in the trees and 3 Long Tailed Tit were feeding together with c6 Redwing in the trees also.

A few more Long Tailed Tits were seen during the outing.

The track near Newton Park Road was very lively with small passerines.

Pick of the "bunch" was a solitary Grey Wagtail enjoying the mud and 6 Bullfinch and a good few Goldfinch.
2 further Bullfinch were heard later, as we neared the gold course.

An interesting hour and a half out and about, and it was not just as murky as Bradshaw, down here.

I had a good do , for a change, with the pool/snooker last week - so lets hope I can continue in the same vein tonight.

A distant Redwing
