A lousy morning with heavy drizzle and murk, allowed us to get a few jobs done and we also had a visit to Fore Lane, Sowerby Bridge ( Green Woodpecker calling loudly).
We then caught the 11:30 bus from Bradshaw to Denholme - the Keighley bus from Denholme to Crossroads and the Hebden Bridge bus from Crossroads to Haworth. The whole trip only took an hour or so - we're getting pretty good with the busses!
After some lunch in a Haworth cafe we started the walk home.
The issue today was wind and lots of it, with a near gale force wind on the tops by Oxenhope Reservoir.
We took the usual route:
Haworth to Oxenhope station going along the stream.
A big housing plan coming soon to this area.
Through Oxenhope village and up to Back Leeming.
Past Leeming Reservoir on the west side path.
Then the long pull up the moors to Oxenhope reservoir (TMR).
A good hike down the bridleway to reach the bottom of Back Lane. Then Ogden Lane, Syke Lane and left at the bottom of Ned Hill Lane through the farms and home.
Birds:
Had my eyes skinned for a Wheatear but didn't see one.
Kingfisher on the stream near Oxenhope Station & a Green Woodpecker calling loudly here. also.
My 2nd BIG BEE.
Leeming Area: Just 2 Canada Geese on the water as seen from the higher path. Pheasant.
Curlew calling from miles off over to the east also airborne , this too miles off, a Lapwing.
2 Meadow Pipit and 2 Red Grouse seen on the long climb up to Oxenhope Reservoir.
Not a lot seen from Oxenhope Reservoir all the way down to Back Lane (nowt new there then).
The gale was not helping at all though.
2 Meadow Pipit, 1 Red Grouse, 1 Skylark, 3 Mistle Thrush airborne as we approached Ogden.
A familiar figure on the promenade, seen from a mile off.
A real 'pleaser' was that of a Little Owl , well camouflaged, perched on a field wall near home.
Feeling a bit pooped today, and it isn't even hiking season for me yet!!
Pool/Snooker soon - better have me tea.
Leaving Haworth
There is a Red Grouse here somewhere
Ah! there it is
A good walk report John, nice one
