√Foreside Lane, Denholme to Bradshaw

15:30 - 19:20

A fair hike this aft. Over the moor from Foreside Lane to Ogden and home via Ned Hill Track.

A calm, warm humid 4 hours.

Foreside Lane area had a Kestrel overhead carrying prey.
An amazing number of Meadow Pipits flitting about all the way to the top of the lane.

I was quite pleased when I picked out a distant Juv. Stonechat.
A beautiful little thing.

2 Curlew, Skylark and Pheasant about.
I was hoping for Wheatear but dipped.
Near level with Oxenhope Reservoir (TMR) a Red Grouse was heard.
Lots of Gulls on the walls of the reservoir.

Nearing Ogden A Green Woodpecker called and also a Nuthatch was heard but not seen.

3 Jay were hereabouts.

The water was quiet - 5 brave ducklings were with mum.
c25 Canada Geese, c20 Black Headed Gull, 7 Lesser Black backed Gull on the water with a few passing by.

A Chiffchaff was singing and a second Kestrel flew over carrying prey.

2 Juv. Moorhen were in the plantation with a family of Canada Geese.
Looks like the Canada Geese could be good protection for the smaller wild fowl.

A Linnet was seen from Ned Hill Track.

Looking north from Taylor Lane c40 small birds were flitting about in the far distance.
4 left the flock and flew my way - Goldfinch.
I could not say if the whole flock was Goldfinch though.
Still, it was pleasing to see such a large flock.

Loads of Swallow buzzing around the Taylor Lane mown fields this evening.

Along the walk 3 Little Owl were seen.

Another enjoyable outing - even with the sparse bird life seen.

A joke - but only just:

A Chinese tycoon was being show around a Sheffield clothing company by the MD who was hoping to sell the business.

"I did not think you employed Chinese workers here" The Tycoon said.
"I don't" replied the MD.
Well I've just heard a conversation between two girls.

First Girl said " Whowashewi"

Second Girl replied  "Shewerewiersen"
