Tuesday morning 6:30am is not my time of day- I'm definitely not made like B.S. who can "rise with the Larks".
More Sloth in my DNA ( Do Not Awaken).
Anyway by the time we'd picked Abigail up from Heckmondwike and sortred all Emma's stuff out it was near enough 10:00 am when we left Strawberry Bridge.
A comfort stop just after leaving the M62 at Howden bridge over the river Ouse, was very fortuitous when we spotted a ploughed field packed to the gunnel's with Golden Plover.
(At least I hope they are Golden Plover!)
Amazingly well camouflaged these birds, I reckon there were c2,000 birds here.
A wet drive to Brid. but the afternoon turned out OK with a visit to the beach for Abigail albeit in her wellies.
Later in the hols, I only managed a couple of hours, along the coast near Sewerby, with the bins and camera, 7 year olds definitely in charge in 2017.
Abigail did some kite flying and I took the high cliff path where there were plenty of birds on the beach albeit very distant.
Birds:
Golden Plover c2000.
Herring Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Common Gull, Black Headed Gull.
Not sure if I got a Lesser Black-backed Gull but they must be here.
Ringed Plover, Turnstone, Sanderling, Redshank - 2 chasing each other, Oystercatcher, Cormorant, (Seal).
Thought I'd got a Little Stint standing near a BHG.
I've been looking at the size differences between a BHG and a Little Stint.
BHG: 35-39 cm ... Average 37
Little Stint: 14 - 15 1/2 cm ..Average 14 3/4cm ish
So a Little Stine is roughly one third the size if a BHG.
But I still think that I have a Sanderling!!
(or maybe not - still head scratching).
21:23 settled on Little Stint.
Still looking through the photies.
Sanderling I believe?
21:23 Settled on Little Stint
Thought this was a Redshank at first but I'm leaning towards Purple Sandpiper?
Wrong coloured legs for a Dunlin
Head on view
Hope you had a nice time in Brid mate
ReplyDeleteWe had a great time, thanks.
ReplyDeleteAbigail is a real happy kid, a joy to take anywhere.
All I need is a birding Guru to sort out my problem birds.
I wonder what the cost would be to hire one?
