Lane Head Lane to Home.
A good walk about today with the temperature soaring but more birdlife than yesterday.
Ned Hill Track was roasty-toasty when I got there, very unusual.
From Lane Head Lane I headed towards the Golf Course and had a good look along the main track and around the area behind the maintenance buildings.
A walk through the bracken and around Ogden Water followed (after a break in the visitors centre).
The usual walk home via Ned Hill Track and Soil Hill.
Birds:-
Lane Head Lane Area:
Song Thrush, Mistle Thrush, Blackcap - poss Linnet.
Golf Course Area:
Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Red Legged Partridge.
Pipit in a Tree.
Possible Raven.
A call similar to a Whitethroat's hoarse nasal call had me beat.
The usual Whitethroat song didn't follow the nasal call.
There were two separate locations where I heard the call but after a good search, I failed to locate the bird(s) in either place alas.
Curlew Calling, 6+ Meadow Pipit.
Ogden Water:
2 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 10 Canada Geese.
Green Woodpecker calling from the NE end.
Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff, Mallard Ducklings.
Giant's Tooth Area:
I took a walk up to the Giant's Toot - very hot now.
Swift high overhead.
Great Spotted Woopecker called from the woods.
Curlew Calling from the moors.
2 Meadow Pipit, 2 Coal Tit.
(No Spotted Flycatcher alas).
Plantation:
Skylark, Kestrel.
Soil Hill / Ned Hill Track:
Red Legged Partridge flushed along the track and disappeared.
6 Skylark, Swallows, Meadow Pipit, Lapwing.
4 Stock Dove.
Towards Home:
Little Owl.
2000+ Starling on Taylor Lane were very noisy!!
Abigail and Emma to entertain for a few days from tomorrow, so no drivel from me for a while.
Possible Linnet - but mega distant in the gloom
Cropped and lightened - not much better!
Carrion Crow or Raven (?) on the golf course
Carrion Crow on Ogden Water
