Hollingworth Lake

We took Abigail and Emma for a day out to Hollingworth Lake today.
A cool dark morning, lightened a bit as we went east to pick up Abigail but darkened again at Sowerby Bridge and darkened further at Hollingworth Lake.
Things did improve slightly and late afternoon it was warm and humid.

Birds:-

The shore line has receded dramatically leaving a long gap between path and water for 30% of the circuit.

Mostly Black Headed Gulls about with a few Lesser Black-backed Gulls.
The usual population of Canada Geese and Mallard were looking for bread.
A Great Crested Grebe was a pleasing sight and also a very distant Wader.
The zoom needed to photo the Wader reduced the picture quality considerably, so that the cropped version of the best of the pictures is really poor.
Nevertheless I'd plump for the bird being a Dunlin.
A rare bird for me to see.

While I was playing in the playground with Abi I spotted a Kestrel, calling, from a nearby tree.

Also about 2 Cormorant and a Heron.

The usual contingent of Lapwing were here and many Martin were feeding, very high and difficult for me to ID.
The logical ID is House Martin.

From the bird hide I caught sight of half a dozen, distant, dabbling Ducks that were not Mallard.
I thought they were Teal at the time and the photos seem to confirm this.
It was very pleasing to get some different Ducks for a change.

Hope you enjoy the pics.
