Along the canal at Elland a singing Chiffchaff

A bit of toing and froing today and a short walk along a very wild and windy canal from Elland towards Brighouse and back.

A few sharp showers, but the stretch by the river was warm and pleasant for a short period during a sunny interlude.

The river is very full with flood warning issued for Elland, Mytholmroyd and Hebden Bridge, according to some dog walkers I spoke to.

There was the sad sight of a barge that had nearly sunk.

Birds:-

Tough going in the wind and most of places where I would hoped to have seen Dipper were underwater.
The canal, too, was a really dirty colour with all the rain.

A pr. Goosander (probably both Female) were getting a free fast ride out of Elland along the swollen R.Calder.

A few Canada Geese here and there.
4 Mute Swan.
Heron.
Great Spotted Woodpecker (or possibly 2 heard).
A M. Goosander was diving on the canal.

Top of the shop was a singing Chiffchaff which was heard a couple of times (but not seen alas) as I walked through the trees near the river.

(Later, seen from Sowerby Bridge, bridge a M. Goosander).

In Halifax Later:-
