Redcar Tarn, Keighley and Leeshaw Oxenhope

We had to visit a wheelchair mobility shop in Keighley this morning. We made a couple of very quick stops on the way home.
Very hot and muggy again.

Redcar Tarn.

The usual birds here as far as I could make out.

Leeshaw:

No 'shoreline' the reservoir is more or less full.

Gulls on the water looking cool, Gulls in the fields definitely feeling the heat!

A real poser.

On the way down the track, we stopped in the dip to look at the stream on the left.
A small bird landed on the wooden fence there and immediately I thought Black Redstart.
I got the camera and bins out of the boot and managed one photo before the bird disappeared.
We hung around a while and also looked on the way back but did not see it again.
Probably too early for Black Redstart(?).
It's possible that the bird is a Juv. Robin but the legs look too dark(?) and the jizz looked right - I'll never know and the picture isn't good enough.

  2. Good call -either would be great!
I didn't think so though, it dropped to the path from the gate.
The few Spotted Flys I've seen have been perchd high(ish).
BUT Ive only seen a few.
    Thks for the interest.

  3. ps
Checking the photo again, the bird looks to have a light breast, so I'm leaning towards Spotted Fly!!
    I need a 3 D camera.
