A short morning outing this morning with a trip planned to Sutton-on-sea.
The tide was on its way in, but still too distant really.
However, I did get 2 head scratchers one possibly a Mega.
The trip to Sutton-on-sea took a while with the main coast road closed and then the 'Diversion' signs missing , leaving us to retrace our steps a bit.
We did get there though and it was generally a Gull day here with mainly sandy beaches.
I did get a couple of Sanderlings (spotted by Sue) along the waters edge and a light coloured bird that landed on the dunes and promtly disappeared!
Birds - Cleethorpes.
Great Black-backed Gull.
Brent Goose.
Many airborne Waders - again very distant.
Turnstone.
Many Redshank.
Two puzzlers.
1st puzzle was that of 2 smaller birds overhead.
I was looking towards the sun and the sun was reflecting brightly off them as they flew past thinking about landing, but in the end, refusing to land!
They were possibly Wheatear but possibly not!
2nd Puzzler.
A very large Wader was among the grasses.
I though Godwit sp. at the time.
Looking at the one and only photo! I think the bird has the look of a Long Billed Dowitcher.
Having just 1 photo, having never seen a Dowitcher and the fact that the grass is in the way makes ID awkward.
I live in hope that someone might enlighten me.
Sutton- 0n-Sea:
Herring Gull.
Common Gull.
Black Headed Gull.
Great Black-backed Gull.
Sanderling.
Think Bar t Godwit John. Nice Sanderling and Brent Geese. You're probably right with Wheatears on the flyover - the lower one shows a white rump but the other one - maybe the sunlight on the underparts ?
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave.
ReplyDeleteThe dark eye on the Barwit photo is probably a shadow from the grasses in front of it.
Home now trying to get our breath back .. Abi takes some keeping up to.
Hope to see you soon.
