A real pea-souper this morning and frosty with it.
Following yesterdays great finds of Med Gulls nearby, I had a drive over to park nr. Denholme Velvets to check out the Shay fields, north of Soil Hill for any 'special' gulls.
No Gulls here whatsoever with the fields and the soil hill north tree line frosty white.
Things did thaw out a bit but no Gulls arrived later.
I had a walk along the nearby tracks.
A few Gulls elsewhere were mainly Common Gulls with a few Black Headed and the odd Herring Gull over , periodically.
A few 'Black' large Gulls that are probably Lesser Black-backed Gulls.
Looks like most of the other bird species had headed lower down to escape the frost.
Just a few Mistle Thrush and a Kestrel, hunting, as I crossed the mega boggy field.
A Raptor turned into a Stock Dove or Woodpigeon - not sure which.
I went as far as the abattoir ruin.
Geese skeins were being reported on the grapevine but non made it my way today.
Still, it was quite an enjoyable outing, if a tad cold.
Stock Dove and Common Gull
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Andy.
ReplyDeleteMy Gull ID skills don't improve much with age.
