With news of a Short Eared Owl influx reported lately, I thought I'd try find one on Soil Hill!!
With snow forecast for this aft, I opted for my exercise walk this morning.
The house was enveloped in fog early doors , but a glimmer of brightness emerging at 9am , made me think that the fog would lift by the time I'd trudged up to Soil Hill.
Taylor Lane was still bottle ice in places and there is still lots of snow on the hill.
Unfortunately the fog remained quite thick throughout, and a snow shower arrived as I got to the top of the north slope.
No surprise , then, that birds were hard to come by.
Birds:
2 Wren, a few Common Gull and Black Headed Gull.
3 Magpie, a few Crows.
Stock Dove and Lapwing airborne.
Robin, Pheasant.
1 Fieldfare. 1 Mistle Thrush.
That was about all, but if you don't go and look.

Heavy snow in Spain, apparently, and Scandinavia and Russia temperatures are below freezing during the day now, so here's hoping a Short Eared Owl (or two) might appear on one of my exercise walks.
Last time I saw one, it was on Ringby Top, Swalesmoor.
Snowing here at the moment.
Well done getting up there today. Daniel would be proud f you !!!! I did 2 hrs in Wheatley valley this morning but I couldn't find a lot even though I was out of the mist.
ReplyDeleteCheers Dave.
ReplyDeleteDoubt if I'll be up there tomorrow if this snow turns up in any quantity.
I'll swap your Snow Bunt text for my Tawny text soooooon!
