Local Fields and Mixenden Reservoir

Another cold day with a NE wind and some white stuff in the afternoon showers.

Not too cold at Bradshaw this morning but a raw, lazy wind in the afternoon.

I had a walk up and around the local fields this morning.

Not much moving at all, with the fields still frozen.

I did manged to see a Little Owl, out of its usual haunt, which always brings a smile.

Mixenden Reservoir:

I had a drive out to Mixenden this afternoon hoping for the long staying Goldeneye.

I guessed it would be sheltering along the west bank.

A mega bog trot along here proved me wrong though with just 4 Mallard seen.

As I reached the exposed east side a nasty sleety shower with a strong wind kept my hands from sweating too much as I held the camera, photographing the Gulls in the gloom.

I was nearly at the wall, ready for home, when the Goldeneye made an appearance from somewhere!

Good to get Goldeneye, not often seen at Ogden, where I normally do my reservoir watching.

Birds:

Near Home:

1 Little Owl.

4 Meadow Pipit (seen through the kitchen window as we were enjoying lunch).

Small Gulls > N this morning in "6's and 7's" kept coming over the house for 30 mins or so.

Mixenden Reservoir:

1 Goldeneye

4 Mallard.

Cormorant.

Herring Gulls.

Lesser Black-backed Gulls.

Black Headed Gulls.

A few Common Gull.

A few "Large" 1st/2nd winter Gulls.

Wren.

Wildfowl in short supply for me this year so far.

Good to get out and about, even in this poor weather.
