Up to and around Soil Hill again this morning was cold but very pleasant in the sunshine.
The weather deteriorated later with heavy snow showers this afternoon.
A snowy trip to Heckmondwike this evening with Abigail, but the snow was nearly non-existent once we got past Shelf roundabout.
Soil Hill etc:
Treacherous bottle ice along Taylor Lane made for a slippy time up the hill.
Good to bump into, and have a laugh with DB and RH who were sky watching on the Hill.
A Raven called from the comms. mast, remained unseen until it flew > N.
Woodcock:
A tough long slog in the snow brought some reward when a Woodcock appeared in flight, giving some great views, as I was scanning some Gulls 'miles off' in the lower reed ridden fields.
I had to kick myself afterwards, because by the time I'd got round to using the camera the Woodcock had dropped down into the reeds.
But the outline of the bird was unmistakable with a dumpy look to it and the bill pointing downwards giving an 'uneven' look in flight.
A real treat - but no cigar - again!
I might as well start the year as I finished the last one with no photo.
.....................................................................................................
A Robin, with its back to me, on the Taylor Lane midden shows white fringes on the feathers that I have not noticed before?
A 'large black bird' was mega distant > W seen from Soil Hill, possibly another Raven?
Taylor Lane Little Owl was in residence today.
Usual birds seen including:-
Pr. Collard Dove, Lesser Black-backed Gull.
Coat Tit, 3 Lapwing.
Pr. Stock Dove.
