Coley Church Area (Hipperholme)

I decided to go to Denholme Velvets this aft. but the 'car park' was bursting at the seams, so I drove down to Coley instead.

An enjoyable walk from the church down the track to Priestly Green and down the bridleway to the A58 (and back).

Birds:-

The usual small birds were here, nothing special really but lots of birds moving about to keep up the interest.

It was good to get my Little Owl fix early on!

2 Mistle Thrush, Bullfinch, Long Tailed Tit, Stock Dove were of note.

Also a cracking very distant Male Sparrowhawk (Cheers Dave), that I mistook for a Great Spotted Woodpecker at the time and still pondered a good while about Sparrowhawk when I looked at my photos at home.

I have Dick Forsman's Raptor ID book and could not find any photo resembling my bird with white spots on the back and  white on the head - difficult this birding ID!

A real bonus of c60 Redwing feeding in a field and, later, on the way back up the path c15 Redwing , chattering in trees - ready for the off?

A good afternoon's entertainment if a tad cold again.

1st sighting of distant Sparrowhawk
