Saltaire - Canal and River

It was a bright sunny morning in Bradshaw as we headed off to Saltaire for some exercise.

As we dropped down towards the Hirst Wood area we could see the mist in the valley and soon we were enveloped by it, which was a tad disappointing.

We enjoyed a 'moody' walk through the dark woods with the wisps of mist in the trees giving a Christmas scene effect.

After going through the woods we then followed the river for a short while before rising up to cross the canal along the aqueduct, then along past the water treatment works and back along the river Aire.

3 'Rowing Boats' were on the river gliding along like long, very thin alligators.

I can't understand who anyone can get into one of these never mind row the thing!

A cafĂ© visit completed the outing before some Christmas shopping in Bradford.

Sue tells me that we have nearly got all out Christmas presents now - yipeeeeeee!

Birds:-

Just a Nuthatch of note in the quite woods.

Hawkeye Sue spotted a Kingfisher in deep foliage by the river.

5 Goosanders were dotted about with the usual Mallard.

The field near the rowing club held a good contingent of Canada and Greylag Geeese - no Pinkie as far as I could tell.

Also here a Heron and at least one Herring Gull and one Common Gull were with the Black Headed Gulls.

A Kestrel was seen earlier as we passed the Raggalds.

9 Magpie were together, seen from Bradshaw Lane on our way home.

Some really odd colours seen on bonfire night last evening as we took Abi back to Heckmondwike via "The West Bank" explosions.
