Pellon Lane.
I had a run down to Pellon Lane this morning to look for the Waxwing that has been seen here a few times lately.
I stood outside Charles Watson's and gazed at the few trees there.
Immediately on arrival, I pointed my camera at 2 Thrushes, but they flushed and flew north up Pellon Lane.
I manged to get a really poor photo of one of the birds in the dark branches.
I was confident that the birds were Waxwing and put the sighting of them out on the grapevine.
Late afternoon and back home I managed to crop the bird in the photo but it "don't look like a Waxwing no more" ???? - boo hoo.
Just a few Thrushes present at first, but during my couple of hours here about, Fieldfare, Redwing, Mistle Thrush, Starling, Blackbird, Jackdaw and Magpie all came to visit - but sadly no Waxwing!
Still, my poor twitching record remains intact.
It was good to have the company of 2 Cromwell birders for a good part of the twitch.
Better luck next time.
A Peregrine was seen on my way home.
Soil Hill.
After lunch and on such a beautiful sunny day I could not sit at home (Sue was collecting Abi from school in Heckmondwike) so I decided to walk up and over Soil Hill, hoping for a Bunting.
An invigorating walk, very cold, especially on the windy west side of the hill, but enjoyable nonetheless.
Some great views from the top.
Nothing at all on the Soil Hill tundra but a few birds were seen on the way up there.
Birds:
A Little Owl was seen as I walked up Bradshaw Lane.
A Pheasant and Blackbird were on the lower Taylor Lane midden.
4 or so Common Gull were floating about above Ned Hill Track.
A Kestrel was hunting above Ned Hill Top.
Not a lot else.
Abi with us tomorrow - so no twitch - I bet the Waxwing returns!
