Elland to Brookfoot Fishing Ponds & Local Fields

I enjoyed the usual walk from Elland towards Brighouse today.

A wet outing with quite a bit of rain with some dry slots.

It was good to chat to Kath & Mick as we had a look at the lagoon.

There is always something of interest down here and the weather is better than at Bradshaw.

Today the interesting thing was some large counts ( for me anyway) of a few species.

The usual problems with camera, rain and the ski-lake railings have made for some poor photies alas.

Late afternoon I had the usual (dry!!) walk along a few fields near home.

I managed a yearly tick here with my 1st Curlew of 2023.

[snowing here at the moment].

(Some) Birds:

Elland Walk:-

 8 Mute Swan (included 4Y75, 76 & 77).

9 Goosander.

15 Heron.

23 Cormorant.

5 Goldeneye Duck (3 F and 2 M).

5 Teal.

1 Lesser Black-backed Gull over head.

1 Herring Gull.

1 Common Gull.

Black Headed Gulls.

A Little Grebe called from the lagoon.

Grey Wagtail.

Bullfinch.

Coot.

Moorhen.

2 Pheasant.

and quite a few others.

Local Fields:-

Curlew.

2 Little Owl.

A few Small Gulls.

2 Large "brown" birds very low, with slow wing  beats > Ogden, picked out it the bins a few seconds before they disappeared behind a field banking.

They were possibly Buzzards, and possibly not!!

What have Power Gen and Curlew in common?

They both rely on large bills for energy.

Now then, where's me socks gone , that joke was so, so  funny.....

I think I've just laughed them off.

Above :
A Female Goldeneye Duck.
But (In my eyes) the bill's all wrong
should be small and triangular.
so..
I thought I got a scarce Calderdale Duck but...
THANKS to the grapevine.
I haven't  😫. Boo Hoo x two.
p.s. the bill is still all wrong.
Just like our energy bill.
😊
