Otley / Ilkley

We had a visit to make to Otley this morning and after the shopping and a Wetherspoon brunch, I was intending to take a birding walk along the river here.

However, after brunch it started to pour down so we drove a few miles to Ilkley where the weather improved greatly.

We enjoyed a walk along the river path to the really pleasant tennis club cafĂ© where Sue opted to have a coffee and wait , while I had a short birding walk along the muddy riverside path.

Flooded Fields and flooded path (in places) and a very swollen river greeted me.

There is some serious path erosion just after the tennis club but an alternative path has been formed  through a small copse there, avoiding the dodgy river path.

Birds:-

2 Redshank (my 1st this year).

6 Oystercatcher.

Grey Wagtail.

Song Thrush.

Mistle Thrush.

Black Headed Gull.

Common Gull.

Greenfinch, Bullfinch, Chaffinch.

Red Kite seen on the way to Ilkley.

Many Gulls airborne and 2 Curlew near Silsden.

Geese with Gulls  in the fields approaching Keighley.

Just 10 Small Gulls on the Raggalds Flood...I was hoping for a Wader!!
