Porthmadog - North Wales

The 'fantastic' weather continues and we took the opportunity to visit Porthmadog, North Wales for a few days.

Not a birding holiday but I did see the odd bird now and then.

The caravan park has a couple of very steep rocky fells and on the second hot evening I decided to walk up a very sketchy path to the top of one of 'em.

Pretty stupid really with perspiration coming out of places I didn't know could perspire.

As is the usual case, as I puffed and panted up the fell, nearly reaching the summit, a jogger breezed down past me with little effort – I tried to trip him up but failed – clever sod.

On Tuesday another boiling day we walked from Porthmadog to Criccieth via Black Rock

where they can drive onto the beach.

The sea was in so we had to take the higher route right from the start of the walk,

 through some thin rocky paths.

I am beginning to realise that my young brain was transplanted into some old geezers decrepit body for this walk.

A Butterfly was seen here – maybe a Speckled Wood – looking at my Little Butterfly Book?

Although my Butterfly deems to have a bluer body.

On Wednesday we had a look at Barmouth on , yes, yet another scorching day.

Ice cream and cafes today and I did take a look along the concrete walkway that

leads out towards the estuary.

With all the dry weather, here, the sand is nearly as white as snow and as fine as sugar and

along the walkway, very deep.

It was like walking along Soil Hill in winter snow (but not just as cold).

Birds:-

Great spotted Woodpecker were numerous around the caravan park ,calling.

Also nearby Blackcap and Nuthatch with a few Buzzards soaring through.

Criccieth walk:-

Raven, Stonechat, Whitethroat - my 1st Whitethroat of this year!!

Herring Gull, Buzzard.

Swifts.

A Little Egret was top of the shop.

Canada Geese,

A bit early for Waders?

A potential Rock Pipit that was very flighty and the photo is out of focus.

Barmouth:

The odd Buzzard and mostly distant Gulls and Cormorant types miles out in the heat haze.
