Elland to Sowerby Bridge and a Bit Further.

This week's weather has not been very birder friendly with Heavy rain, strong wind and a plague of fog.

I did get out for short periods most days (in among decorating the lounge - well holding the ladder steady really and labouring on the gaffer '- er in doors).

Today I was planning on a visit to Soil Hill but this morning it was very misty so that idea was ditched.

Sue had a 3 hour meeting scheduled at White Windows, Sowerby Bridge and she kindly dropped me off at Elland Bridge so I could walk the 4+ miles along the canal to Sowerby Bridge.

The meeting overran by quite a bit so after a short stop in 'Spoons' for a coffee and biscuits I carried on a mile or so towards Hebden Bridge before retracing my steps and meeting Sue in Spoons for a late 'lunch'.

A very enjoyable outing even though the hoped for 'tick' never materialised.

Birds:

Kestrel.

Nuthatch.

4 of the Common Tit species seen.

Pr. Bullfinch.

1 Chaffinch.

2 Goldcrest.

Singing Mistle Thrush.

Jay.

Black Headed Gulls at the water treatment works.

2 Wagtail species (heard).

Mallard, 2 Mute Swan.

Buzzard heard - not seen.

Cormorant on a big chimney.

2 Collard Dove.

6  very distant airborne Woodpigeon or Thrush species (?) that I cannot ID.

Top of the shop was 2 Song Thrush in the trees opposite Sowerby Bridge Aldi Car Park.

A look at Mixenden Reservoir from the top road found it bereft of birds.

I had a walk up the local fields this evening 10 minutes before dark where a Little Owl was seen.

Also a small flock of Goldfinch and a Pheasant.

Great to get the walking boots on again after a miserable week inside.

Other Bits:-

Tuesday 14th Local Fields - 35 Canada Geese and a few Small Gulls.

Wednesday 15th Raggalds Flood - c50 Small Gulls and c10 Lapwing.
